How Can I Be Happy – Hug

Have you ever met one of those people that just radiated love? The kind that looks at you and fully appreciates you – wherever you’re at, mentally, physically, emotionally. They’re rare. They seem weird.

They are weird when compared to the conventional. Weird in that they’re rare and different. This is a good thing. I had the good fortune of hugging one of these people recently after a brief conversation. I felt something.

There’s nothing like being held tight and loved. Kids know this. They need it. So do adults.

I thought the hug was going to be a typical guy hug. A quick lean in and pat on the back. There’s nothing wrong with this. In fact, for guys, it’s a big deal to do that. It indicates closeness and trust.

The hug I received, however, was an embrace. He wrapped his arms around me and held me tight. He wasn’t holding back. I could sense that he was giving me something, but also recharging himself. He was fueling up on love. I don’t think I can do it justice with words.

In less than 5 seconds I felt different. I was energized. I felt important. I felt worthy. I am. It’s just really nice to be reminded. I also felt connected. I was happy.

I know a little about the guy who gave me the hug. He lets God flow through him.

A simple answer to the very common question of “how can I be happy” is to tune into God. This is hard for many. Connecting to God, and allowing him to work through us sounds odd, or religious. I understand these concerns. I’ve been there.

I am so much happier when I work with God than when I don’t.
