We can be happy lots of ways. The obvious things like good health, good friends, connectedness are all important. However, they’re not enough. It’s the thoughts in our head that make or break happiness. It’s the subtle, yet far more persistent negative thoughts that destroy happiness.
JFK said: “For the great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth – persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.”
Persistent negative thoughts (e.g., this sucks, that sucks, my coffee is too cold, my coffee is too hot, I can’t believe it’s raining, I can’t believe it’s so damn hot) are very persuasive. They will create our reality – and it will suck! I speak from decades of experience.
Going deeper and examining our thoughts will reveal that much of our misery is from these persistent and persuasive negative thoughts that dominate our minds.
The good news is that this is power – mind power. We can reverse engineer our thinking. We can focus on the positive, however mundane (hey, I did a great job brushing my teeth!) – everything counts when it comes to our thoughts.
Going deeper still, we can turn to God. We can tap the source of all power and connect directly to God. Once connected, happiness is no longer a concern.
