I’ve been thinking about the Beatitudes – the Sermon On The Mount. I thought another way to look at them would be as “be” attitudes. The message that was delivered by Jesus that day on a hill somewhere near the Sea of Galilee was not a list of random moral values. It was a call to celebrate – to receive – to, well, “be.”
It was an invitation to a new life with God that changed everything. I dig into this a little deeper in What Are The Beatitudes.
Here is another way of looking at the Sermon On The Mount:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Be Happy!
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Be Joyful!
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Be Empowered!
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Be Great!
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Be Expectant!
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Be Satisfied!
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Be Confident!
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Be Strong!
How can we “be” all these things? God has come. He will help you. Dude – you got no worries. Join with God in a new life. That’s what Jesus is saying.
That’s good news!
