Why Fear Is Like Quicksand

I was watching the movie “The Replacements” recently. It’s a great film about overcoming fears, among other things. In the film, Keanu Reeves describes fear like quicksand. “Hey – quicksand’s a scary mother, man…” Right?

He states “…you think everything is going fine, but then one thing goes wrong, and then another, and another. And you try to fight back, but the harder you try, the deeper you sink, until you can’t move, can’t breath, because you’re in over your head. Like quicksand. ”

Fear – it is just like quicksand.

Fear can very “quickly” put us on “sandy” ground. We’re no longer balanced. We’re not on solid footing. We sink.

Fear is also a fantastic opportunity. It’s an opportunity to find out what’s causing the fear – to find out what’s poisoning our minds. We can learn more about ourselves.

It’s an invitation to trust. We can let God in and see what happens. We can walk through the fear. We can step forward. It’s still scary, but it doesn’t have to consume us.

Let me know what you think. Enjoy the video clip…
